This training is based on three simple steps - Question, Persuade, and Refer - and teaches individuals to recognize the warning signs of suicide and learn how to save a life. QPR is similar to learning the fundamentals of CPR to save lives.
We offer these trainings in the months of September and May so that adults supporting youth in out of school time organizations can learn how to prevent suicide and save lives in their communities. STEM Family Engagement Using the CARE ModelFamilies play an essential role in their children’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. It has been established through research studies and practical experience that children are more likely to engage in STEM learning and see the value of STEM when their caregivers have positive attitudes toward STEM. Further, children are more likely to achieve in STEM when their caregivers are empowered in shaping their child’s STEM learning. While family engagement is important in all learning environments, caregivers who engage in informal programming outside of school are more likely to get involved in their children’s learning at home and in school, leading to more meaningful STEM learning and better outcomes for their children. YoungStar 101 for Track 3 DirectorsIn this 3-part live webinar series for Track 3 Directors, we will unpack the YoungStar School-Age criteria, evaluation, and coaching process as it relates specifically to the unique setting of school-age programming. We will share and discuss tools used as part of the YoungStar process including the Developmentally Appropriate Environment (DAE) checklist, the YoungStar School-Age Self-Assessment and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) and the creative ways you can use these tools to enhance the school-age program experience. School-Age Curricular Framework will be covered as best practice for school-age programs with real programmatic examples and resource sharing, taking into consideration the unique settings in which school-age programs often run.
